Matej Zachar: We achieved another important milestone of V1 NPP decommissioning

„Our company VUJE, a.s.,  implemented the demolition of civil construction part and extraction and following fragmentation of 399 pcs of nests used for storage of activated operational waste,” explains Matej Zachar, Project manager from General Director Department.

To illustrate: The external diameter of each 399 nests was approximately 20 cm and a length was 9 meters. The size of the Storage was approximately 4.5 x 4.5 meters.

One of the dry cutting workshop, designed especially for the D4.2 Project, was used for the fragmentation of nests. „Even before, from each nest the waste was retrieved and fragmented also in wet cutting workshop. This activity was led by our consortium partner Westinghouse,” Matej Zachar confirms.

About 40 tons of fragmented intermediate level waste from mogilnik is safely stored in the Interim storage of radioactive waste operated by JAVYS, a. s.,. Fragments of storage nests with overall mass around 110 ton are after decontamination released to the environment.
