Slovak President Meets VUJE Board Chairman to Discuss the Future of Nuclear Energy

The high-profile meeting took place as part of the ceremonial celebration marking the 20th anniversary of JAVYS, a.s.

During his visit to the Jaslovské Bohunice site, President Pellegrini expressed particular interest in an innovative storage container designed for 85 fuel assemblies - a solution developed and currently being manufactured by VUJE. The container represents a direct contribution to the safe management of spent nuclear fuel.

The discussion also touched on upcoming projects that, in the President’s words, could fundamentally transform the landscape of nuclear energy.

Zoltán Harsányi, Chairman of the Board of VUJE, a.s.: “Forty-nine years of uninterrupted expertise give us the confidence to speak about the future of nuclear energy with conviction. We are encouraged that the President sees the potential in the projects we are working on, and we remain committed to strengthening our position as a leader in nuclear energy in Slovakia.”

Particular attention was given to the closed nuclear fuel cycle - a vision being pursued by an international consortium that includes specialists from VUJE. If realised, this project would allow Slovakia to break its dependence on imported nuclear fuel and achieve genuine energy self-sufficiency in this domain.

“This would be a breakthrough for our energy security,” President Peter Pellegrini emphasised. He noted that Slovakia, alongside France, ranks among Europe’s nuclear powerhouses, not only because of the share of nuclear energy in its electricity generation, but also due to its strong technical expertise and its capacity to retain skilled professionals across the full lifecycle of nuclear facilities.
